Default How many track days would street tires last for a slow novice?

In Jun of '09, I did the free NESBA trial track day at BFR... the free program allowed me to be out there for only 2 Novice sessions in the morning. This was my first & only time on a track... I was pretty slow compared to many of the Novices out there... I don't have my lap times.

So now I'm day dreaming about 2010. Ideally, I hope to do about 3 or 4 complete track days (I've only done 2 20-minute sessions), I'm considering BFR, Road America & Autobahn. As the norm with everyone else... I fully plan on improving my speed/skills as I go, plus anxious for to getting my knee down for the first time.
Oh, my bike is a '08 GSX-R600 as my daily commuter.

So to the point... I plan on running the Non-OEM version (additonal tread compounds over OEM-version) of the Bridgstone Battlax BT-016 next year... street tire. I won't be getting into tire warmers either.

So with my currently slow skills, but hopefully a steady improvement over the few track days...

How many track days would you think I could get out of a new set of these tires? I'm on a virtually stock 600 as well.
I'm guessing/hoping 4 trackdays could be expected?

Thanks in advance.

4 days should be no problem as 600's are a lot easier on tires compared to the litre bikes. I run dedicated track tires now & can get 3-4 days out of them on my R1. Street tires I used for a couple sessions & I was simply pushing them too hard, they tend to get greasy & sloppy feeling.

I would say at least 4; probably more. At Blackhawk, running in Advanced, riding a 1000RR with Michelin Pilot Powers, the rear tire would get through (but just barely) 3 full trackdays, and that's mostly because Blackhawk wears so heavily on the right side. The front will last even longer.

Depends how many street miles you are putting on. But most likely it would last through the trackdays.

Thanks gang... that all sounds like good news to me.

About the street miles... Ideally I would like to buy a set of used rims & have them mounted up with my track tires (Bridgstone Battlax BT-016)... & just swap them when I'm going to the track, instead of using them on the street... that way my track-use tires wouldn't be worn in the center from commuting, as well as I'd always know where I stand with tires for track days.

I'm sure a tire that is over half worn will still be good enough on the road... but that same tire would be forcing me to buy tires more quickly if they are being used jointly on the track, along with the street.

But buying used rims & new tires will be really squeezing my available $ for the cycle this year... so I'm not yet sure if I'll be using the same tires next year on the track & the street.

Dedicated track rims are great, I have set for my R1 but they aren't cheap. I picked up the rims cheap enough but 3 brake rotors, sprocket, etc add up the $$$ quickly.
