KTM990SuperDukeR071

Tri-Valley Moto and Eric Gulbransen to Debut KTM 990 Super Duke at Mazda Raceway

The AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL class is already one of the most diverse divisions in major league motorcycle road racing, but the competition is going to get even more interesting beginning with this weekend’s Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The KTM 990 Super Duke is the 11th different motorcycle approved and homologated for AMA Pro Daytona SportBike competition, and one of the unique twin cylinder bikes will be debuted this weekend at Mazda Raceway. The California-based Tri-Valley Moto team and rider Eric Gulbransen will field the No. 394 KTM 990 Super Duke in Sunday’s AMA Pro Daytona SportBike final.

“We have seen outstanding racing this year in AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL and that is due to the incredible talent of the teams and riders and the performance of a diverse line-up of motorcycles,” said AMA Pro Racing President Roger Edmondson. “AMA Pro Daytona SportBike is now home to 11 different motorcycles from nine different manufacturers and the parity we have seen in the on-track performance has been unmatched at this level. We welcome KTM and Tri-Valley Moto to the series and know they will be a competitive addition to an already outstanding class.”

The Austrian-made KTM brand has been ridden to more than 90 motorcycle championships around the world but the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike debut will be the manufacturer’s first experience in North America at this level.

Tri-Valley Moto is based in Livermore, California and Gulbransen is a veteran California rider from Menlo Park, who also has extensive experience racing Ducatis.

Dual 23-lap/50-mile sprints for AMA Pro Daytona SportBike and AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike presented by Parts Unlimited will bring the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix weekend to a close on Sunday, July 5. The Daytona SportBike race begins at 3:30 p.m. local time and will be followed directly by the American Superbike race at 4:15 p.m.

Noriyuki Haga Underwent Successful Surgery

At 5pm this afternoon Ducati Xerox rider Noriyuki Haga underwent successful surgery at the Derby City Hospital. Having fractured the ulna in his right arm in yesterday’s crash at Donington Park, Noriyuki today had a plate and screws inserted to set the bone. The surgical team deemed the surgery a success and there were no unforeseen complications.

Prior to the operation, medical staff took a closer look at his right shoulder blade and an x-ray unfortunately confirmed that he has multiple fractures to his left scapula. The scapula will not necessitate surgical intervention and the bone should knit itself back together in time; this complication should not prolong Noriyuki’s recovery time. The Japanese rider should be discharged from hospital tomorrow (Tuesday) and he and his family will fly back to Italy so that Noriyuki can begin the necessary physiotherapy treatment.

The Ducati Xerox rider will not participate in the next tests at Imola but it is foreseen that he will compete in the next round at Brno.

Spies Doubles at Donington

Now only 14 back in WSB title chase.

spies_donington_gara2

Yamaha’s Ben Spies closed to within 14 points of the World Superbike championship points lead by sweeping both races, while points leader Nori Haga (Xerox Ducati) crashed heavily out of race two at Donington Park in England.

“It was a picture perfect weekend,” Spies said before expressing concern for Haga. “I hope he’s OK, because that’s not the way you want to do it, but we’ve got to capitalize when things do go wrong.

By winning his tenth race, and Haga not finishing, Spies now has 294 points to Haga’s 308 after nine of 14 rounds. Ducati Marlboro’s Michel Fabrizio, third in race two, is third with 257 points.

Spies not only swept both races, but he set the fastest lap in both, only the 18th time that had been done in World Superbike history. The last time was when Spies did it at Miller Motorsports Park at the end of May.

“The first race was not easier, but easier to concentrate,” Spies said. “In the second race I was almost having to do one lap at a time pretty hard to kinda keep my rhythm going and it’s hard racing with those big of gaps, because you can’t just stop and you don’t want to push and do something stupid. So, it was quite difficult, but we managed through it and, yeah, I can’t thank the Yamaha guys enough. We changed a lot of things around and they came and delivered me two great bikes.”

VIR Race Report

Will Scholze - #187Well I made it back from VIR after a very fun weekend!

We ended up riding on the North Course at Virginia International Raceway.  The north course is 2.25 miles with 17 numbered turns.  We drove all night Thursday night, and made it to the track on Friday morning at about 8:30am, just in time to wheel the bikes out of the trailer and ride the practice day!  A local friend of the guys I rode down with saved us a great pit spot right next to pit out.  I set off with high hopes of getting as much track time as I possibly good in an attempt to learn this tricky track.

The same local guy that showed us the track was kind enough to take a couple parade laps to help show us which way the track went.  That was eye popping!  I remember being on top of the hill before the “roller coaster” turns on my first lap, and just thinking that there was no way I could learn this place!

Ride 4 Cure – This weekend in Ft. Atkinson

Ride4Cure

About Us:
Ride 4 Cure began in 2005 when co-founders, Lori Ulrich and Phil Hack, were looking to do a fund raising event to benefit their Relay for Life team. That first year it was pulled together in two months time with a small committee of helpers. Each year the participation has grown, as well as our committee of helpers and volunteers. Starting in 2008, at the 4th Annual event, we did a Friday night local poker run along with the scenic Saturday ride. Live music, food, prizes, raffles and vendors are just a part of the event. We will be having the same format again in 2009 with dates set for June 26-27.

Mission Statement:
Our commitment is to raise money for cancer research and cancer related programs as well as life limiting illness and end of life care.

Charities for 2009:
We will share the proceeds from this year’s events with Rainbow Hospice Foundation and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

Donation Statistics:
During its first 4 years, Ride 4 Cure has donated $23,573.21 to Relay for Live/American Cancer Society. Another $1000 was presented to the Hoffman family and $500 sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Both came from donations made at the 1st Annual Ride 4 Cure Golf Outing in memory of Elizabeth Hoffman.

Simoncelli to Gresini Honda

Simoncelli to Gresini HondaOne of the first pieces of the MotoGP puzzle fell into place with the signing of 250cc World Champion Marco Simoncelli by the San Carlo Honda Gresini team for 2010.

The 22-year-old Italian was among several hot properties for the 2010 season, the first in which rookies must sign with satellite teams. He’ll replace the underperforming Alex De Angelis, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Who Simoncelli will team with has yet to be decided. Spaniard Toni Elias currently holds the spot, but several names have been mentioned as his possible replacement. From the MotoGP paddock the most prominent name is Marco Melandri, the Italian who had his greatest MotoGP success with the Gresini Honda team, but now rides a Kawasaki for Hayate Racing. And from outside the paddock the most notable name is Yamaha’s Ben Spies.

“Everyone loves Spies,” team coordinator Carlo Merlini said. “So do we. He’s on the list like many others.”

Merlini said the team had been so focused on signing Simoncelli and re-upping title sponsor San Carlo, the Italian snack company, that they hadn’t given much thought to the second rider.

“We’ve been focusing on re-signing San Marco for the third year as the title sponsor and fifth year with the team,” Merlini said, “and focusing on getting Simoncelli.”

Back From VIR

Will Scholze - #187Made it back from VIR yesterday after driving all night and into the day monday. My last race on sunday, i didn’t do as well as i had hoped for. I didn’t get as good of start as i would have liked, and didn’t really put my head down and ride like i could/should have. I kind of left the track a bit disappointed in my last race. I think i finished 9th out of 16 or 17, i would have to double check. I also didn’t get my sub 1:40, i did a 1:40.2 so only a little bit better then saturday.

I will try to make a more detailed post of the weekend, with some pictures soon. Right now i am still trying to catch up on missed sleep!
